The Muafidari(Jagir) of Saklana was granted to Diwan Baliram Saklani who was the cabinet minister in the court of the Tehri king. He was given Muafidari Of 5 Villages. Later his Son Diwan Rameshwaer Saklani was appointed as the Prime Minister in the court of Tehri Garhwal.Diwan Rameshwar Saklani, moved from Haweli gaon in Saklana to Padiyar gaon in Tehri Garhwal. Padiyar Gaon was initially a village of the Padiyar Thakurs, who moved during the war and the village was left vacant. Diwan Rameshwar Saklani settled in that village as it was closer to the Tehri Court. It is said that Padiyar became the largest village of Saklanis with a population of about 15000 people.Diwan Rameshwar Saklani had 6 sons out of which Shivram Saklani and Sheeshram Saklani were said to be most courageous and active. They were Mafidars of Saklana, they helped the Tehri king and Kumaon King in the battle against the Rohillas In 1741.The songs on the bravery of Sheeshram Saklani are still sung in a few parts of Garhwal.(I am airing the link of Battle with Rohillas, Shivram and Sheeshram Saklani were the friends of Prakaram Shah the younger brother of the King of Tehri Pradyuman Shah. They even arrested the Pradyuma shah to make Prakram Shah the king. Later they had to escape with Prakaram Shah whe the son of King Pradyuman Shah, Prince Sudarshan Shah attacked them with the forces.
Later Shivram and Sheeshram Saklani got stronger and their Jagirs were extended to 62 villages which was earlier 5 villages. In 1790 the Gorkha with the help of Prakaram Shah, Shivram Saklani and Sheeshram Saklani conquered the Garhwal after the battle of Khurbura. Jawalaram Saklani, third brother of Shivram and Sheeshram became the advisor of Gurkha Commander Amar Singh Thapa .The Gurkhas declared the Saklana Jagir as a tax free Jagir. I am sharing the rubber stamp of the Jagir Bahali orders given by Gorkhas to Mafidar Shivram Saklani as a screenshot from the Book Saklani Vansh. The Gurkhas were very ruthless, their rules were very torcherous. It is said that once Shishram Saklani (as Dehradun came under Saklana Jagir) was ordered by the Gorkhas to put the hands of Mahant of Jhanda Gurudwara into the boiling oil, as he was accused of some robbery. The Tehri King Shudarshan Shah was hiding in the plains in all these years of the Gurkha Rule. He came in contact with Britishers and Shivram Saklani and a new tie up emerged i.e British Army, Tehri king and Mafidars of Saklana. In 1814 the battle of Khalanga happened. It was very difficult to defeat the Gurkhas, then Britishers blocked the water supply to the Khalanga Fort. Meanwhile Sheeshram Saklani, along with his army attacked the Fort. Sheeshram Saklani was martyred while fighting with the Gurkhas, but gurkha Commander Balbhadr Singh fled from the war site to Punjab, where he was killed by Khalsa Warriors under Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The folk songs on the bravery of Sheeshram Saklani are still sung in few parts of Garhwal. Post Khalanga the division of Garhwal into British Garhwal and the Tehri State took place. The area of Srinagar and Pauri came under British Garhwal while the area at the other side of river Alakhnanada came under Tehri State. As a reward The Maufidars of Saklana Shivram Saklani was given the independent charge, his jagir was granted a Tax free status by the British officer William Frazer. Thus Saklana became an independent Riyasat of 64 villages
Mafidar Shivram Saklani died in 1819, his son Rai HariRam Saklani and Rai Jayram Saklani were minor at that time. After the death of Shivram Saklani, Shudarshan Shah the king of Tehri asked British Government to impose the Saklana Jagir under Tehri Kingdom as the sons of Shivram Saklani were minor at that time. However the nephew of Shivram Saklani, Kashiram Saklani went to east India company court and displayed the sanad of Co proprietary of the Jagir. Thus he became the guardian of Kashiram Saklani. Thus Kashiram Saklani, HariRam Saklani and Jayram became Junior and Senior Muafidars of Saklana. Later these Muafi(jagir) got Further divided where the Hriday Narayan and Maharaj Narayan became the Muafidars of Dehradun, HariRam Saklani became Junior Muafidar of Saklana. Kashiram Saklani's adopted son Devidutt Saklani became the senior Muafidar of Saklana. Shivram Saklani's younger son Jayram Saklani was given Jagir of Padiyar gaon in Tehri.Even today the 2 Saklana region are mentioned on Google map. One as Saklana and another as Saklana. These are two jagirs that got divided into Senior and Junior Muafidar. The original Saklana Jagir started from Bajawala in dehradun(Modern Day IMA and FRI) to Padiyar Gaon in Tehri and From Badkot gaon dehradun to borders of Uttarkashi.
