The Darbargarh traces its history and origin to antiquity, when the entire region, now comprising Districts Bhavnagar and Ba roda was under the sway of Kathi Durbars. For this reason this area was also known as Kathiwada.
The royal family of Dared is a branch of the royal family of the erstwhile Vallabhipur State, earlier also known as vala, ruled by the Gohil Rajput's.The common ancestor of the Vallabhipur and Dared royal families was Raol Shri Patabhai Bapu and three sons - Shri Prithvirajji ( 1853-1859 ), Shri Kashalsinhji and Shri Jalamsinhji. After the death of Megharajji Shri Vakhatsinhji became the Thakore Saheb of Vallabhipur . Raol Shri Akshyarajji, The younger brother of Thakore Saheb of Vakhatsinhji and son of Shri Megharajji, was given the principality of Dared and Melana . He, therefore, came to Dared. The Present Royal Family of Dared traces their unbroken lineage directly to him.
